Consumer Reports recently rated five popular diets on the following characteristics:
- Pounds lost
- Nutrition
- Ease of following the diet
- Dropout rates
According to these criteria, the five popular diets were ranked as follows:
- Weight Watchers
- Slim-Fast
- The Zone Diet
- The Ornish Diet
- The Atkins Diet
Of course, diets are ranked in terms of being weight loss vehicles. It doesn't mean these diets are the best to sustain currently levels of health and fitness. And the entire point of this "A Firm Resolve" blog is maintaining good levels of health and fitness. "A Firm Resolve" is the result of translating the Latin expression res firma mitescere nescit, which was mentioned in the bicycling movie American Flyers, "roughly" translating into "once you've got it up, keep it up."
The list would look different for those who are not overweight. In my mind, here are the top 3 "diets" (for lack of a better term) for healthy people (in no particular order):
- The Zone Diet
- The Ornish Diet
- The Atkins Diet (Stage 4)
