I used to work as a pre-sales consultant at Talus Solutions and worked with Talus through a merger with Manugistics (which was later purchased by JDA Software). Back in those days, there were few companies that offered price or profit management. The strange this is that the market shakeout in the 2001-02 timeframe actually squeezed the big companies, letting hundreds of employees go. Some of these founded their own organizations.
One that comes to mind is Nomis Solutions which was founded in 2002 by Simon Caufield and Dr. Robert Phillips. Both Caufield and Dr. Phillips worked at Manugistics. In fact, I worked with Dr. Phillips while at Talus Solutions / Manugistics. While Manu didn't have a pricing focus, Nomis Solutions focuses on finance and banking. BTW, you can benefit from the wisdom of Dr. Phillips by checking out his new book Pricing and Revenue Optimization.
A number of my colleagues from Talus Solutions / Manugistics now work at Austin-based Zilliant. Interestingly, Austin houses other pricing companies including Mimiram (which I just discovered today via Reuben Swartz's LinkedIn profile). In addition, Trilogy Software and a few other pricing software companies are in Austin if I recall correctly.
There are dozens of vendors now and I don't have the energy to report on them. But I can say that it would be interesting to take an inventory of the strengths of each of these companies.
