Google Reader is telling me that I read about 65.1 stories per day (1,236 stories over 19 days since I restarted with a new Google Account).
But I'm a fast skimmer. I'll often devote perhaps 5 seconds to reading an article, if that. Nicely, Google Reader helps me find those 2 or 3 articles a day that are worth some time digesting and introspecting.
Method: I skim article titles in "list" view, unlike Scoble who reads 600+ feeds per day "expanded" view. Assuming the average site has 2+ articles/day, this says the great Scoble reads 1000+ articles/day. I'll end up skimming 1500 titles/day and that only takes perhaps 15 minutes and then another 15 minutes to skim the contents of the 65 stories/day that I read.
I will say that Google Reader really helps me stay on top of professional and personal topics of interest - and that Google Reader helps me with my own Attention Economy.
